Davy Klaassen, an Ajax midfielder, has taken a dig at Manchester United, questioning why Erik ten Hag would want to join a team that has “been doing badly for years.”
Despite the fact that Ten Hag is United’s top candidate to take over as manager at the end of the season, club sources insist that they are keeping an open mind in their quest. Last month, United met with the 52-year-old to interview him for the job, and it was later revealed that they would only have to pay Ajax £1.7 million to get him out of his contract.
The Manchester Evening News reported on Monday that the United dressing room is split over Ten Hag’s potential appointment as the club’s next manager, with some players excited about the prospect of working with him, while others see him as a ‘underwhelming’ choice, according to sources close to the players. PSG’s Mauricio Pochettino is also a frontrunner for the post.
United want to find a permanent manager before the end of the season so they can prepare properly for a crucial summer, while Ajax player Klaassen wants Ten Hag to continue in Amsterdam.
Klaassen, a former Everton player, told Voetball Primeur, “He has been doing well with us for years and Manchester United has been performing terribly for years.”
In response to recommendations that Ten Hag go, he remarked, “He can also stay.” “I certainly hope so.”
His remarks follow those of Ajax striker Sebastien Haller, who warned United about the Ten Hag method last week. “We all understand if he did that,” he continued, “but I think the coach should select what he wants.” We’re merely his sidekicks.
