Van der Gouw, Raimond
Couldn’t do anything with the goal, but made great stops from Sissoko and Aurelio in the first half and looked quite confident between the posts. 7
Valencia, Antonio
He frequently had acres of room on the right but lacked the speed to take advantage of it, and his crossing was occasionally wasteful. 6
Stam, Jaap
In the first half, he was still a dominant figure at the back and had Voronin in his pocket. In the second half, he led the backline admirably. 7
Johnsen, Ronny
The connection with Stam appears to be natural, and the less-heralded of central defenders appeared at ease throughout, particularly when in control. With a soaring header, he almost scored. 7
Pugh, Danny
Set up Berbatov’s first-half goal with a smooth touch and jumped into challenges, forcing Kvarme off the field in the first few minutes. 7
Carrick, Michael
He still has a fantastic range of passing, as evidenced by his contribution in Berbatov’s spectacular opener. A moment to savor for Nutmeg on a despondent Xabi Alonso. 8
Poborsky, Karel
He appeared with a cropped hair and, like Samson, appeared to have lost his powers. I found it difficult to get involved in the game, either centrally or out wide. 5
Fletcher, Darren
United is still employing people, and the old fires are clearly still burning. I jumped right into a few challenges and used the ball well at times. I had a slightly more advanced role. 7
Gibson, Darron
The low-key member of United’s midfield trio, but he did make several good forward passes and appears to be in good shape. 7
Campbell, Fraizer
He appeared to be on the side for his legs but didn’t use them sufficiently. Berbatov scolded me for not offering an out ball in the first half. 5
Berbatov, Dimitar
Even Alisson, according to Jose Enrique on LFC TV’s half-time show, would not have saved that volley. A magnificent goal in front of the Kop, and he seemed a class above everyone else on the ball. 8
Substitutes
Pilkington, Kevin
I didn’t have much to do. 6
Djemba Eric Djemba
Sat in the back four and felt secure enough. 7
Blomqvist, Jesper
There is no significant influence. 5
Brown, Reece
A commanding presence at the back, with one excellent tackle on Robbie Keane. 7
Irwin, Denis
There isn’t much time to create an impression. 6
Keane, Roy
When he came on, as well as every subsequent touch, he was booed. It was fantastic. 7
