Manchester United has picked a 31-man squad for Erik ten Hag’s first pre-season tour, with some notable absences.

Cristiano Ronaldo will not fly to Thailand with the rest of the first-team squad after being allowed further time off to cope with a family problem that has kept him from practicing this week.

He is not the only senior player absent, with Phil Jones also expected to skip the trip as he continues to pursue a specialized pre-season program, as he did last summer, to ensure he is best prepared for the season ahead.

Brandon Williams, another defender, missed out due to a minor issue and will remain at Carrington, but he could be sold this summer.

Andreas Pereira has been granted more time off following his loan spell at Flamengo in Brazil, but he is expected to join Fulham this summer.

Alvaro Fernandez and Shola Shoretire, both teenagers, are continuing their pre-season preparations with the U21s, but both are scheduled to leave on loan in the coming weeks.

There was also no room for Teden Mengi and Di’Shon Bernard, two young center-backs who could possibly leave the club on loan this summer if a good offer comes in.
