Manchester United fans were ecstatic about James Garner’s first-half performance for Nottingham Forest in the Championship play-off final.

Garner, 21, continued his outstanding run in Steve Cooper’s side at Wembley, and was impressive in both defense and attack for the Reds in the first 45 minutes. Following a great challenge at the back to thwart a Huddersfield Town attack, the midfielder was at the heart of the opening goal before half-time.

Garner’s dangerous ball caused problems for Huddersfield, and Ryan Yates’ dash into the box led in the ball striking Levi Colwill and diverting into the net.

The assist was the Manchester United loanee’s tenth in the Championship this season, and it rounded off a strong first-half effort. Garner, who had a 97 percent pass accuracy, won all three of his tackles in the midfield fight against Jonathan Hogg and Lewis O’Brien.

His efforts for Forest this season have piqued the curiosity of Premier League clubs, including Leicester City and Leeds United, while supporters of his native club have been left speechless by his performance at Wembley Stadium.

Here’s what the club and fans had to say about Garner’s first-half performance…

@ManUtd: Outstanding first half, James!

Bring him back, @RutaUTD.

@utdleo_, you’ll be on the first team next season.

@ManUtdRonaldo7: Ten Hag should play him.

@Jocelynsleek9: Much better than Fred. He will improve with the help of a skilled coach. What a reliable player.

@433FutbolFan: I hope Ten Hag is paying attention…

@niyipharm1: That kid has a talented cross and strikes into the box.

@huythediep0508: Garner should be retained and given a new long-term deal.
