Manchester United are apparently interested in acquiring Goncalo Ramos from Benfica, following recent links with Wolverhampton Wanderers and Newcastle United.

Last season, he contributed 12 goals for Benfica and scored eight times in 46 appearances in all competitions. Seven of those matches were in the Champions League, and he also scored in Benfica’s 3-3 draw with Liverpool at Anfield.

Ramos has scored eight goals in 12 appearances in all competitions this season, including four in six league games. The striker is said to have a £100 million release clause, although Benfica are unlikely to obtain that much in January or next summer.

Wolves were rumoured to be in talks with Benfica in the summer about acquiring Ramos, before signing Goncalo Guedes and then Sasa Kalajdzic to bolster Bruno Lage’s attacking options. The Molineux club were working on a deal to sign Ramos, according to Mais Futebol, and the Portuguese publication reported that Wolves had “initiated talks,” but a deal never materialised.

After former Bundesliga attacker Kalajdzic suffered a long-term knee injury at the start of this season, Lage has subsequently added Diego Costa to his team for the remainder of the season. However, Ramos could return to the Premier League in January, according to The Sun, who claims United manager Erik ten Hag is ‘eying’ Ramos to bolster his team’s firepower.

United’s only recognized and healthy striker is Cristiano Ronaldo, with injuries to Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford revealing how short they are in the front areas.
