According to rumors, Manchester United is still considering bringing Mason Greenwood back into the fold after charges against him were dismissed. Since January of last year, the England international has not appeared for the club. The 21-year-old, though, might be reintegrated into Erik ten Hag’s team.
Greenwood was detained in January of last year, just after United defeated West Ham 1-0 in the Premier League.
Nevertheless, it was revealed last month that the forward’s accusations had been dismissed, leaving the Red Devils with a decision to make.
United has received loan offers for Greenwood, with teams from Turkey among those interested.
The Athletic reports that the ‘option of returning Greenwood to the club’s first-team squad as part of a hypothetical phased return to football remains firmly under consideration’.
United stated in a statement last month that they were taking their own procedures to assess what to do with Greenwood.
“The club will now conduct its own procedure before deciding on the next steps,” the statement said.
“We will not say further until that process is completed.”
The Sun has published various reports about Greenwood’s predicament since it was revealed that he may play for United again.
It was reported that he is about to become a parent when his girlfriend became pregnant, and there has also been speculation of the striker reaching out to his teammates.
According to club insiders, United is not currently in talks with broadcasters.
And it’s too early to tell which path they’ll pursue with the 21-year-old and his football future.
The same source earlier alleged that several United women’s team members are ‘very concerned’ about Greenwood possibly returning.
Some, on the other hand, are labeled as more careful’.
Whatever happens, United intends to recruit a new striker at the conclusion of the season.
Anthony Martial is too prone to injury, and Wout Weghorst, who arrived on loan, is expected to return to Burnley.
United has high hopes for Harry Kane, whose contract with Tottenham Hotspur expires next summer.
Victor Osimhen, another Nigeria international, has scored 20 goals in 19 Serie A outings this season.
During his tenure as United manager, Ten Hag has rarely spoken about Greenwood.
But, as he stated last month: “No. Nothing. I can’t contribute anything; instead, I refer to the club’s statement.”
He went on to say: “We are human, and we have problems from time to time. We are not robots, but we must concentrate on our work.
“When problems arise, it is up to the club and team to deal with them.
“We have standards and values, and we must live up to those high standards and values, which provides a foundation if you have a solid culture and spirit.”
Greenwood has 35 goals for United so far in his career.
Only Martial, Marcus Rashford, and Bruno Fernandes have scored more goals in the squad.
