After being left out of England’s World Cup squad, the United winger spent some time recently practicing in the Netherlands with instructors recommended by manager Erik ten Hag.

Sancho had a tough first half of the season marred by illness, injuries, and poor form, and was sent to the Netherlands by Ten Hag last month for individual training sessions at the Dutch amateur club OJC Rosmalen after Gareth Southgate chose not to take him to Qatar.

Ten Hag has now decided to leave Sancho out of his 29-man traveling squad for the winter training camp in Spain, allowing the player to continue working alone with coaches in the hope of getting back up to speed after a challenging spell. United, who arrived in Spain on Saturday night and began training on Sunday, will play Cadiz on Wednesday and Betis three days later.

“Jadon Sancho is continuing his individual training regimen as part of a process to return to his top level,” United announced on their website. “The club is completely behind him in this.”

After an excellent pre-season under Ten Hag and early-season goals against Liverpool and Leicester in the Premier League, Sancho’s form began to wane before he was dropped.

Sancho was an unused replacement against Sheriff Tiraspol and West Ham in late October before missing United’s final four matches before the World Cup due to an unidentified illness.

A young squad
With 13 United players playing in the World Cup, plus Alex Telles on loan at Sevilla, Ten Hag will take a primarily young squad to Spain for some warm-weather training and two friendlies before their domestic return to action against Burnley in the EFL Cup on December 21.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Brandon Williams, both of whom have been out with injuries for much of the season, have been included in the squad. Goalkeeper David De Gea, defender Victor Lindelof, midfielders Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek, and forwards Anthony Martial, Alejandro Garnacho, and Anthony Elanga are among those who will be in attendance.

Axel Tuanzebe will remain in Manchester to continue his rehabilitation from a major injury, while United made no mention of forgotten man Phil Jones, who is not in the traveling squad and has not played this season due to his ongoing injury fight.
