“I’m not a fan” – Fabrizio Romano reacts to who Man Utd are reportedly eyeing for January

Manchester United’s turbulent start to the Premier League season has been nothing short of a nightmare, marred by injuries, public disagreements, and disappointing on-field performances. Under Erik ten Hag’s management, the team has struggled to find their rhythm.

Their troubles began on the opening day when they narrowly defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers, a team dealing with a last-minute managerial change. However, the true extent of their woes became evident in the subsequent match, which saw them succumb to a defeat against Tottenham Hotspur.

One might have expected this loss to prompt a reevaluation and a potential turnaround, but Manchester United only managed a close win against Nottingham Forest at home before suffering another defeat, this time against Arsenal.

These struggles raise questions about the effectiveness of their summer transfer business and shift the focus toward the upcoming January transfer window. In light of this, football expert Fabrizio Romano has offered his insights on a potential transfer target.

So, what’s the latest on Manchester United’s transfer front?

In truth, given their recent acquisitions such as Mason Mount, Andre Onana, and Sofyan Amrabat, Manchester United should ideally not be contemplating the January transfer window so soon. However, their recent performances have necessitated a reevaluation.

With this reconsideration in mind, there have been rumors linking the Red Devils to a possible move for Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha in January.

Joao Palhinha’s move to Bayern Munich fell apart dramatically this summer after Fulham failed to secure a replacement in time. Following this setback, a January transfer is now a possibility.

However, Romano was cautious in his response to United’s reported interest, stating in a conversation with Caught Offside: “As I previously reported, Bayern Munich came very close to signing Joao Palhinha this summer, only for the deal to fall through late on as Fulham couldn’t find a replacement. Now, there’s been further speculation about the Portuguese midfielder’s future.

“I’m aware that Manchester United have been linked as potential suitors for Palhinha when the transfer window reopens in January, but I’m not inclined to comment on rumors about something that is still four months away. There’s no action at the moment, and considering that Man United recently invested in another defensive midfielder with the Sofyan Amrabat deal, it’s uncertain. I believe Bayern will make another attempt for Palhinha, but it’s too early to say for sure; January is still far off.”
