Erik ten Hag, despite Harry Maguire’s reasonable performance in the 2-1 win over Brentford, is actively seeking additional options for his center-back position at Manchester United. Sporting’s Gonçalo Inácio has emerged as a new addition to the list, reports Fabrizio Romano.

The 22-year-old center-back, previously valued at nearly £40 million, has garnered praise in Portugal. Alongside Inácio, Antonio Silva, Jean-Clair Todibo, and Edmond Tapsoba complete the four-man shortlist, potentially pushing Maguire further down the pecking order.

3AM Verdict: Inácio is a promising prospect and one of the better center-back options United could acquire next summer.

United’s recent track record suggests there’s room for optimism, though they’ll be hoping he doesn’t follow the trend of players who falter upon arriving at Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, Manchester City is reportedly interested in Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich, as his contract enters its last 18 months. Kimmich hasn’t signed a new deal yet, potentially making him available at a reduced fee next summer.

Coincidentally, Pep Guardiola is contemplating the departure of Kalvin Phillips in January, as the England midfielder seeks more playing time in preparation for Euro 2024.

3AM Verdict: The chance to sign a player of Kimmich’s caliber is not one to pass up. After eight years at Bayern Munich, Kimmich appears to be seeking a new challenge while in his prime.

If City can seize this opportunity, they’ll significantly strengthen their squad, posing a daunting prospect for their rivals.
