De Gea has been a standout between the posts since being replaced by Dean Henderson last season. He moved into 12th place on the all-time list with his 481st appearance for United in the Ronaldo-inspired win over Norwich on Saturday afternoon. Throughout the Premier League season, he has been a constant presence.

When it comes to Sir Matt Busby awards, De Gea is already at the top of the list. Few people think he won’t make it to five by the conclusion of the season.

Ronaldo, who hauled United back into the top four mix with a devastating hat-trick against the Canaries on Saturday afternoon, could have something to say about it. With those goals, he now has 21 in all competitions this season.

Fred, who is now out with a hip injury, has seen a significant improvement in form since interim manager Ralf Rangnick was appointed. But, according to the Brazilian, who should win?

“Me!” he said in an interview with MUFC media. Haha. It’s a challenge. We have some fantastic players that have had a successful season.

“I could vote for Cristiano or Bruno [Fernandes], but David de Gea has been the finest player this season in my opinion.” He’s had a fantastic season and has always been there for us when we’ve needed him.”
