The 37-year-old will not play against Chelsea on Saturday after apparently failing to make an appearance against Tottenham on Wednesday night. Ronaldo posted a message on social media shortly after his punishment was confirmed.

“As I’ve done throughout my career, I attempt to live and play respectfully toward my teammates, opponents, and coaches,” the statement says. “That is still the case. I’ve not changed. I’m the same guy and professional I’ve been for the last 20 years of playing elite football, and respect has always been a major factor in my decision-making process.

“I began when I was very young, and the examples of the older and more experienced players were always very significant to me. As a result, in the years thereafter, I’ve always tried to set a good example for the young people who have grown up in all of the teams that I’ve represented. Unfortunately, that is not always possible, and occasionally our emotions get the best of us.

United won 2-0 thanks to goals from Fred and Bruno Fernandes, but the headlines were taken by Ronaldo after he ran down the tunnel before the final whistle. Ten Hag was vague about the event, but he did say it would be handled behind closed doors.

“I’m not paying attention to that; I’ll deal with it tomorrow. “I want to keep the attention on the squad,” he remarked after the game in a press conference.

“All 11 players performed admirably. I must fix myself. It was also a good performance by the substitutes. Once again, it was a team effort. I believe we have seen 11 guys defend and 11 players attack. “I was overjoyed.”

According to Mirror Football, Ronaldo was fined £1 million and barred from first-team training for at least three days as a result of the incident. In a brief statement, United later announced he would not play against Chelsea on Saturday.

“Cristiano Ronaldo will not be available for Manchester United’s match against Chelsea on Saturday. The remainder of the team is completely focused on preparation for that game “a United official bulletin stated.

Ten Hag is thought to have received backing from the Old Trafford leadership to sanction the club’s most recognizable – and highest paid – player as he sees fit. It’s the latest squabble between Ronaldo and United, which began at the close of last season.

Ronaldo made it apparent that he wanted to leave after scoring 24 goals in his first season back at the club, despite United missing out on the Champions League. After missing the club’s pre-season tour of Asia and Australia, he began the season behind the rest of his teammates.

Ronaldo was later involved in a friendly match against Rayo Vallecano at the end of their summer training, but he quit at half-time in what Ten Hag described as an “unacceptable” occurrence.

The drama will almost certainly fuel the forward’s desire to quit the club when the January transfer market opens. While United are hesitant to authorize a mid-season sale without a replacement, they are aware that the position is becoming increasingly untenable.
