The Georgian winger, 22, has blasted into the scene this season, scoring 11 goals and assisting nine times in his maiden Serie A season to help his team go 18 points clear at the top. Few had heard of Kvaratskhelia while he was performing in his nation, but his electrifying performance has put his name on the lips of admirers all throughout Europe.

Kvaratskhelia’s most recent heroics occurred on Saturday when he opened the scoring against Atalanta with a beautiful strike. It was a goal that reminded Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti of the late, great Diego Maradona, and Italy legend Christian Vieri stated that if he joins the Premier League giants, he may match Best’s effect at Old Trafford.

Vieri stated on Bobo TV, according to Calcio Napoli 1926: “The goal he scored was out of this world! The days of George Best will return if he joins Manchester United. The same goes for Kvaratskhelia. I can’t wait to see Napoli play on Wednesday.”

Kvaratskhelia will have another chance to impress in midweek when Napoli faces Eintracht Frankfurt in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie. The Italian team leads the first leg 2-0 as they set to host their opponents at Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.

Kvaratskhelia did not score in Germany, but he did assist Giovanni Di Lorenzo’s goal, which added to Victor Osimhen’s opening, to add to his goal participation. Gary Lineker is among many who have been impressed by the youngster, and he resorted to Twitter with trademark wit to write: “Keep the name in mind. He’s so good that we’ll all know how to spell it someday.”

In his post-Atalanta press conference, Spalletti couldn’t stop himself from praising Kvaratskhelia. The midfielder twisted between the defense before blasting into the roof of the net to double Napoli’s lead, displaying the kind of breathtaking footwork that Maradona wowed fans with during his time in Italy.

“That was a goal worthy of Maradona, and I don’t say that lightly,” Spalletti remarked of Kvaratskhelia’s stunning goal. “He has this amazing ability to twist the ball inside out and then shoot so rapidly. He becomes lethal when he stares you in the eyes and challenges you. Well, we may evoke the name of the finest the world has ever seen this time.”

Because of the young Georgian star’s tremendous abilities, Napoli fans have affectionately nicknamed him “Kvaradona,” echoing Spalletti’s remarks.
