The two attackers have had a long-standing rivalry throughout their careers, which peaked during their time with Real Madrid and Barcelona. Messi is thought to have put the controversy to rest after finally winning a World Cup medal in Qatar last year.

Messi’s great season appears to have permanently influenced the opinion of his PSG teammate Mbappe. Previously, the Frenchman was a tremendous fan of Portuguese legend Ronaldo.

The striker’s father stated that the veteran was one of Mbappe’s game heroes. In 2016, he stated, ” “Mbappe is a Real Madrid supporter, and Cristiano Ronaldo is his idol. He used to spend hours on the internet viewing Ronaldo videos.”

That assertion was supported by Mbappe’s former teammate Abdou Diallo. He had stated that the striker had no doubts about who was superior.

In December, the defender stated: “Kylian Mbappe is practically everything to Cristiano Ronaldo. If you bring up Lionel Messi vs. Cristiano, Mbappe will argue for at least an hour. Ronaldo is untouchable in his eyes.”

Mbappe announced his change of heart on social media following the Best FIFA Awards. On Monday evening, a lavish celebration in Paris was staged to honor the finest players in both the men’s and women’s games in 2022.

Messi was awarded the Best Men’s Player of the Year after his amazing efforts as Argentina won the World Cup, and he has also found electric form. Together with his club teammate Mbappe, the veteran was named to the FIFPRO Men’s World XI.

The latter responded to the pair’s evening, while also congratulating Messi with a telling message. “Another trophy at home,” he posted on Instagram. Congratulations to @leomessi for being #TheBest.”

This season, as PSG seeks yet another Ligue 1 title, the pair have developed a terrific relationship on the field. He has 17 goals and 16 assists in all competitions this season after a shaky debut season at the Parc des Princes.

Meanwhile, Mbappe has had a fantastic season, scoring 29 goals across all competitions. During the FIFA awards event in Paris, the Frenchman had another intriguing reply.

He wore a hard expression on his face after his rival from the World Cup final, Emi Martinez, was voted the Best Men’s Goalkeeper.
