‘Discussions underway’ – Man Utd plot swoop to sign £43m star but Liverpool also keen – Sky Reporter

Manchester United and Liverpool are both interested in signing Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka, according to Sky Sports Germany.

The Germany international clashed with Thomas Tuchel during the club’s pre-season tour of Asia, and he may leave the Allianz Arena this summer. In their recent pre-season games, Tuchel favored new signing Konrad Laimer over the 28-year-old to pair Joshua Kimmich in the middle of the park.

Goretzka stated last month that he was pleased with Bayern and had no plans to leave the club; however, his opinion may alter now that he has lost his starting spot.

According to Sky Sports Germany, United has been watching Goretzka for a long time, and ‘discussions are continuing’ internally regarding a possible move for the German international.

Goretzka is widely recognized as one of the best midfielders in the Bundesliga, having helped the Bavarians win the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, UEFA Champions League, Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup.

Since joining the club, he has made 179 appearances, scored 34 goals, and supplied 35 assists in all competitions, thus he would be an excellent addition for United.

However, according to Sky Sports Germany, Manchester United is not the only club interested in signing Goretzka this summer, as Liverpool, Juventus, Atletico Madrid, and Napoli are all interested.

After losing numerous players, including captain Jordan Henderson and Fabinho, Jurgen Klopp is overhauling his midfield for next season. Liverpool have already signed two new midfielders this summer, Alexis MacAllister and Dominik Szoboszlai.

The Merseysiders are looking to add at least one more midfielder to their roster and have been linked with a number of players, including Romeo Lavia and Andre, but Goretzka has surfaced as a possible transfer target.

According to Sky Sports Germany, Bayern Munich is willing to sell the German for £43 million (€50 million), which is a fair price in today’s transfer market for a player of his caliber and experience.

Man United are also in talks with Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, although they will have to sell first after spending £174 million on three new players, namely Mason Mount, Andre Onana, and Rasmus Hojlund.
