Altay Bayindir seems poised to leave Manchester United, with reports from Turkish media suggesting a potential move to Celtic.
Last summer, Manchester United made significant changes to their goalkeeping lineup. David de Gea and Dean Henderson departed, while Andre Onana was brought in as the new number one. Altay Bayindir also joined the squad, arriving from Fenerbahce.
Initially, reports indicated that Bayindir was impressing in training. With Onana struggling at times, many expected Bayindir to get his chance. However, that opportunity never materialized.
Throughout the season, Bayindir only made one start, an FA Cup match against Newport County. Consequently, we still know very little about his abilities as a goalkeeper. Now, it seems his time at Old Trafford may be coming to an end.
According to Give Me Sport, citing Turkish outlet Aksam, the 26-year-old is likely to leave United. However, he might stay in the UK, with a move to Celtic on the horizon.
Celtic is set to lose Joe Hart after his three-year tenure, and they are looking for a quality replacement. Bayindir, who played for top-tier Fenerbahce, seems capable of playing at a higher level than Celtic (no disrespect intended).
It’s unfortunate that Bayindir was never given a proper chance at United. Onana, signed for a significant fee, was always going to get the majority of the playing time if fit. Onana remained healthy throughout the season, missing only one game during AFCON.
Given these circumstances, it’s understandable why Bayindir wants to leave. He’s not yet at his peak and needs regular playing time to reach his full potential.
