Lacey has signed a contract with Academy Arena, according to her Instagram post.

Lacey, 16, has excelled at Manchester United’s development levels, making his under-18s debut last season at the age of 15.

Pre-season saw the teenager shine, scoring in an under-21s friendly against non-league Gainsborough.

Shea Lacey is regarded as Manchester United’s most gifted player in his age group, which says a lot given the number of bright players going through the club.

Lacey has represented England at the under-16 level and is set to play a key role for Manchester United’s under-18s this season.

Lacey’s father, Paddy, verified the story on Twitter, writing that he was “so happy,” adding that his son “has had a ball glued to his feet since the day he could walk.”

On course for the top

Shea Lacey has a long way to go to reach the top; his career is only getting started. There could be numerous stumbling blocks ahead. But he has the same chance as everybody else of making the first team. Many people believe he is a sure thing.

Lacey is a strong dribbler with superb balance who excels at free kicks and is a natural goal scorer and creator.

If he continues to produce at a high level, it would not be surprising to see him make his Manchester United debut in a few years.
