According to rumours in Germany, Ralf Rangnick admires Nkunku and has identified him as a possible transfer target.

RB Leipzig’s leading scorer with 20 goals in 32 games for the Bundesliga club, including seven in just six Champions League matches.

Nkunku spent time in the French capital with Paris Saint-Germain, where he played alongside Edinson Cavani and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, before transferring to the highest flight of German football.

The attacking midfielder learned a crucial lesson about mentality during a training ground drill involving all three players.

L’Equipe quoted Nkunku as saying: “We were playing a training match the day before a game in my first year as a pro.

“I tried to play a cross-field ball with seconds left on the clock, but it went right to the opponent.

“Edi [Cavani] was the one who headed it in and scored. We were defeated.

“The next day, Ibra phones me and tells me flat out, ‘I lost yesterday.’

“I couldn’t think of anything to say to him. He was serious, but he was also laughing, and he was serious about it [laughs].

“He explained to me that this was the first and last time he would lose a game.

“‘There you go, now you know how difficult our training sessions are,’ Blaise [Matuidi] commented afterward. ‘You can’t lose here,’ says the narrator.”

This seemingly harsh lesson learned at a young age demonstrates that Nkunku understands the type of attitude and approach required to be successful at Old Trafford if he signs with the club.
