Cristiano Ronaldo has returned to Manchester United training ahead of Sunday’s pre-season friendly against Rayo Vallecano.

The 37-year-old has not participated in United’s preseason preparations thus far and has spent a prolonged period of time in Portugal for ‘family issues.’

Ronaldo has also been lobbying to leave United this summer because he wants to play in the Champions League again next season.

Despite his agent, Jorge Mendes, holding conversations with Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona and Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, and Sporting CP, no takers have emerged.

Ronaldo came to United earlier this week and expressed his wish to go, only to be assured that the club has no plans to let him go.

And Ronaldo is now prepared to rejoin his United teammates, having participated in a training session at Carrington on Saturday.

The 37-year-old posed for a shot on Instagram with Amad Diallo, Charlie Savage, Hannibal Mejbri, and Daniel Gore, with the caption: ‘Working in progress.’

Ronaldo announced his intention to play against Rayo Vallecano at Old Trafford on Friday, writing on Instagram, ‘Sunday, the king plays.’

Ronaldo also responded on Instagram to a post claiming that he is still asking his agency to secure a move away from Manchester United before the transfer window closes.

Ronaldo wrote, ‘It’s impossible not to talk about me one day.’

‘Otherwise, the press is bankrupt.’ You understand that if you don’t lie, you won’t be able to get people’s attention. Keep going, and one day you’ll get some good news.’

Erik ten Hag’s team is currently returning from Norway after a 1-0 loss to Atletico Madrid on Saturday afternoon.
