World Cup 2022 top 10 scorers: Golden Boot race begins in Qatar

Four years after Harry Kane’s victory in Russia, football’s top forwards will descend on Qatar to compete for the Golden Boot in the 2022 World Cup.

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, two players who have redefined what it means to be a goalscorer in the modern era, are almost certainly entering their final game on the grandest stage of them all, while Robert Lewandowski, Neymar, and Luis Suarez are all seasoned veterans looking for one last push.

Kylian Mbappe is another. The France star is in fantastic form with Paris Saint-Germain and is looking to follow up his excellent performances in 2018 with a statement Golden Boot win, despite the fact that Karim Benzema has been ruled out of the tournament.

Further afield, Darwin Nunez, Leandro Trossard, Richarlison, Vinicius Jr, and Lautaro Martinez have all been in good form at the club level in recent months, making the battle even more exciting.

As things stand, England captain Kane is the man to beat, but dismissing some of the game’s biggest names would be a mistake.
