“What you doing?!” Jordan Henderson left baffled by Harry Maguire in England training (Video)
On England duty, Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson and Manchester United captain Harry Maguire have put their differences aside, although there has been a miscommunication between the two in training.
In an odd incident during an England training session, Jordan Henderson was perplexed by Harry Maguire.
The Three Lions stars, skipper Liverpool and Manchester United, were on the same team for a training session ahead of Saturday’s 2-1 friendly triumph over Switzerland.
Henderson and Maguire were taking part in a rondo, an exercise in which numerous players try to pass around one or two men in a small zone, in this case, goalie Nick Pope and playmaker Jack Grealish.
Normally, the ball is transferred swiftly to maintain a fast tempo and mimic an in-game situation, but the United defender’s decision to handle the ball and wait for Pope to shut him down perplexed the Liverpool captain.
“What are you doing?” Henderson inquired, as his teammates appeared perplexed on an episode of Inside Training broadcast on the Three Lions’ YouTube site.
The video abruptly pulls away from the action, allowing us to speculate on Maguire’s explanation. Despite the fact that both players are important components of Gareth Southgate’s squad, they have had very different seasons with their respective teams. Captain Kane stepped up, smashing home past Jonas Omlin to equal Sir Bobby Charlton’s Three Lions record of 49 goals and win the game.
“I thought it was a really good test,” Southgate said after the game, as England extended their unbeaten streak to eight games since losing the Euro 2020 final to Italy. “We fell behind, we had tactical issues to work out, and we needed to defend effectively.” Of course, towards the end of the game, we were able to bring more experience and some top players onto the pitch, which allowed us to finish well as well, which was essential for both the team and the crowd.” On Tuesday, the Three Lions will play Ivory Coast.
