BREAKING – Takeover date Announced: Glazers finally accept Sheikh Jassim bid with announcement date ‘pencilled in’
According to rumors, the Glazers have finally agreed to sell Manchester United to Sheikh Jassim out of fear of a fan backlash.
The Glazer family, Man United’s owners, have been considering bids for the club from Qatari financier Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the founder of chemicals giant Ineos.
The Glazers originally hinted at a sale last November when they launched a strategic assessment, but the bidding process has dragged on.
At the end of June, reports claimed that Sheikh Jassim’s proposal for 100% ownership of the club was the most likely to be accepted, following new protests against the Glazers at Old Trafford.
And now, according to The Sun, Sheikh Jassim has won the race to take over Manchester United, with the Qatari “set to complete his full £6 billion takeover of Manchester United by mid-October.”
Despite Ratcliffe’s willingness to enable the Glazers to retain a share in the Premier League team, Sheikh Jassim has ‘fought off’ competition from Ratcliffe.
Erik ten Hag is still seeking for a midfielder, a backup goalkeeper, and a center-back with less than a week till the transfer market closes.
His search of a centre-back, though, may be complicated because it will almost certainly necessitate the departure of Harry Maguire, who was on the verge of joining West Ham.
Former Liverpool and Chelsea defender Glen Johnson believes Maguire should have leapt at the opportunity to join West Ham earlier this month.
“Yes, I think he needs to play football and show everyone that he’s still good enough to play for England,” Johnson told Betfred. I believe they would have completed the transaction if he was confident enough that he would be a success at West Ham.
“I think he’s worried that he might still play crap at West Ham, which would make the whole situation even more embarrassing.” I believe he is concerned about the move because, let’s face it, if your present team does not want you and another Premier League team does, the trade should be rather simple. I just think he’s not as confident as he should be in making that move.”
