Man United fired Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Sunday morning following a humiliating 4-1 loss to Watford.

Several managers from across Europe are being considered as potential replacements, with the Red Devils set to select an interim manager until a permanent replacement is found.

As a result, there has been speculation that Manchester United great and Derby County manager Wayne Rooney will leave his current club to return to Old Trafford, with Sky Sports News reporter Dharmesh Sheth claiming that the former striker will not be able to refuse the offer.

“Now you’ve got a situation where Wayne Rooney, even though he wouldn’t say it publicly, would find it difficult to turn down an interim post at Manchester United,” Sheth added.

Between 2004 and 2017, Rooney made 393 league appearances for United, becoming the club’s all-time leading scorer.

Despite their terrible current situation, a return to the club where he spent his golden years would definitely bring back happy memories.

Rooney’s previous managerial experience includes a spell in charge of Derby County, who are presently bottom of the Championship after being deducted 21 points this season due to financial irregularities.

While relegation appears to be a foregone conclusion, losing their manager in the middle of the season would spell even more devastation for the Rams, who rebounded with a win against Bournemouth over the weekend.

Rooney, on the other hand, has broken his silence on the subject and dismissed rumors that United is considering him on an interim basis.

“I speak to individuals at Manchester United on a regular basis, so if they came knocking, I’m sure it would have already happened,” he stated.

“I’m committed to Derby County, and I’ll be here until someone tells me I’m not welcome to be the manager here.”

“Of course, Ole will have experienced the demands of leading Manchester United. There’s a danger you’ll lose your job if the results aren’t accurate. Ole’s job has been lost as a result of this, which is unfortunate.

“I’m sure Ole has put in a lot of effort every day to bring the best out of the team.” Unfortunately, he has lost his work as a result of it. I’m sorry for his loss.

“I’m not sure where they’re going from here.”
