After following Nicky Butt out of the exit door, Manchester United’s assistant head of recruitment has left the club as well.

In an interview with MailOnline, Lyndon Tomlinson is said to have expressed his desire to step down this week.

Previously, Tomlinson worked as the head of recruitment for Manchester City before joining United five years ago with Dave Harrison.

The transfer of Jadon Sancho from Watford to City in 2015 was made possible thanks to Tomlinson’s assistance..

Later, Sancho would go on to join Manchester United from Borussia Dortmund in a deal costing £73 million, which was completed earlier this month.

    A month earlier, Nicky Butt resigned from his position as head of first-team development, allegedly due to disagreements with the club’s new director of football, John Murtaugh. Butt had resigned following allegations of suspected tension with United’s new director of football, John Murtaugh.

    Although Butt admitted that it had been “tough” to leave the club for a second time, the former midfielder stated that he thought it was the “perfect time” to seek a fresh challenge.

    It is unclear at this time what Tomlinson’s reasons for leaving the club were, although he leaves the club’s academy ranks in a strong financial position.

    As well as Joe Hugill from Sunderland and Monaco’s Hannibal Mejbri, both Tomlinson and Harrison were instrumental in the recruitment of the latter, both of whom have played a significant role in the club’s pre-season campaign.

    After making his senior debut for United in a 2-1 win over Wolves in the final game of last season’s Premier League, Mejbri made his second appearance for the club in the final game of this season’s Champions League.

    The club’s coaching staff is quite impressed with the 17-year-old Hugill, who signed his first professional deal with the club earlier this month.

    While working at Birmingham City, Tomlinson is best remembered for finding Jude Bellingham, who later became a star.

    In the summer of 2016, Bellingham selected Dortmund over Manchester United and signed a £25million deal with the Bundesliga champions.

    A total of 29 Bundesliga appearances and one goal were made by the 18-year-old for Dortmund last season.

    Gareth Southgate included Bellingham to his Euro 2020 team, where he made history by becoming the youngest Englishman to appear at a major tournament at the age of 17 years 

    Meanwhile, Raphael Varane, the Real Madrid center defender, is a guy the Red Devils are not planning on losing.

    Prior to the conclusion of his £45million transfer from Spanish giants Real Madrid, the French defender has been quarantined in England.

    In according with the Manchester Evening News, if Varane’s test for Covid-19 comes back negative, the 28-year-old might finish his physical on Tuesday.
