From all indications, Arsenal’s attempt to help Mikel Arteta trim his squad even further hit a stumbling block on Tuesday afternoon.

Exactly 4 hours ago, Hector Bellerin’s agent, Ignacio Liano took to his verified Twitter handle to announce that his first meeting with Arsenal representatives in London to discuss the player’s future, ended in a deadlock.

Since after returning from his successful loan spell at the Spanish side, Real Betis, Bellerin put forward a request for Arsenal to tear up his contract so he could return to Spain.

As it turns out, Betis want to sign the Right-Back on a permanent deal but have openly declared that they cannot match Arsenal’s £7 million valuation for the player. The situation has also been complicated by the fact that Hector is in the final year of his contract and could leave for free next summer.

However, not willing to wait until June 2023 before moving on, the player has asked Arsenal to terminate his contract so he can join Betis, where he enjoyed a successful loan spell last season,  lifting the prestigious Copa Del Rey trophy with the La liga side.

On Tuesday afternoon, Hector’s agent announced on Twitter that he would be traveling to London for a crucial meeting with Arsenal to discuss his player’s future.

"Bellerin's agent travels to London to terminate the contract with Arsenal"

Several hours later, however, Liano returned to social media to reveal that Arsenal is refusing to grant his client his request, a stance that has now led to a breakdown in talks.

"First meeting in London without an agreement for the return of Bellerín"

Arteta will indeed be disappointed with this development because it is believed that there cannot be further signings unless the club moves out several players in the squad.
