WATCH – Man Utd flop scores goal of the season contender with incredible volley for new club

The former Manchester United player, who is nearing the end of his career, scored his second goal of the year for his new team with an incredible long-range attempt.

Alexander Buttner, a former defender for Manchester United, scored one of the season’s best goals this past week for Dutch team De Graafschap.

After leaving RKC Waalwijk, the left-back, a Red Devil from 2012 to 2014, inked a deal with the team earlier this season. Buttner, 33, had a successful debut season at De Graafschap, with a goal and two assists in his first 11 games.

He maintained that impressive streak on Friday against Den Bosch with an impressive strike. The defender received the ball after making a run down the left flank in the 14th minute, and despite being at least 30 yards out and in close proximity to the flank, he boldly attempted a left-footed effort. Wouter van der Steen of Den Bosch was the goalkeeper when the ball sailed over him and into the net.

“I was thrilled when Peter [Bijvelds, manager of De Graafschap] called me. On and off the field, I want to matter to the squad. I want to support the young men both on and off the field by having attacking instincts and scoring abilities.

The change marked the most recent chapter in the former United player’s nomadic career. He was on the books of Dinamo Moscow, Anderlecht, Vitesse Arnhem, New England Revolution, and Apollon Limassol after departing Old Trafford in 2014 after a lackluster run.

Buttner has always had nothing but praise for his time spent playing for the Red Devils.

Prior to winning further titles during his tenure at the club, he stated: “First and foremost, being the Champions of England was a fantastic success, and the ability to play and develop alongside the best players in the world has been incredibly significant for my career as a professional footballer.

“I had Patrice Evra as a terrific coach who taught me a lot, and the other players who are also at a world-class level also helped me a lot. You can only get better as a player if you can join such a team and squad.

“Alex Ferguson was one of the best managers in the world, and it was an honor to play for him, along with Dutch assistant manager Rene Meulensteen. He also brought me from Vitesse Arnhem, which is what makes it extra special. If a manager like that believes in you as a player, it says something.
