Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen revealed that the Manchester United locker room didn’t bother him about his support for their archrivals.

Owen joined Manchester United from Newcastle United in 2009 after making 71 Premier League appearances for the Magpies over a four-year span at St James’ Park. to 17 years and 143 days, the 43-year-old arrived to Anfield and became the club’s youngest goalscorer.

He won the FA Cup, two League Cups, and the UEFA Cup with Liverpool, as well as a number of individual awards, including the Ballon d’Or in 2001. He left the Reds for the Spanish capital and the Galacticos, Real Madrid, but nearly returned to L4 after a year in La Liga until the Toon Army swooped in.

Owen famously scored a late goal in the Manchester derby to give Sir Alex Ferguson’s side a critical three points in the Premier League title battle. Despite having ties to Merseyside, he has stated to AceOdds that he was not scrutinized by his Red Devils teammates.

“Not really, no is the honest answer,” he responded. “I think things like that are what fans do when you’re a professional; moving clubs and moving here and there and everything else is part of the game.”

“It’s almost unthinkable for a fan to consider supporting another team, but in the game with managers and players, that’s exactly what happens.” That is why supporters are usually irritated and point fingers, claiming that players lack loyalty and other such nonsense.

“However, if players weren’t good at kicking the ball around, they’d be just like fans.” They’d only have one squad, and they’d be there for them through thick and thin.

“Coming into a dressing room after leaving a club, I’d been to Real Madrid, Newcastle, and now Manchester United.” So it’s not like I left Liverpool and went right to the archrivals. Everyone knows I was desperate to return to Liverpool at any cost.
