Cristiano Ronaldo appears to have sent a message to Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag in his recent Instagram post, indicating that he has learned from the club’s disciplinary punishment.

Ronaldo recently rushed down the tunnel at Old Trafford following Manchester United’s decisive two-goal victory against Tottenham, forcing manager Ten Hag to bench the star for the following weekend’s trip to Chelsea. It is now expected that he will leave Old Trafford next year, possibly as soon as the January transfer window opens.

Ronaldo, 37, has been keen to leave United for the past four months, following the failure of his high-profile return from Juventus last year. Despite scoring 24 goals in all competitions the previous season, the Red Devils’ overall form plummeted, and they finished sixth in the Premier League.

Unsurprisingly, the Portuguese star was harshly chastised for his refusal to come on as a substitute during the Spurs game. He also did not linger to thank his teammates for a superb performance, undermining his manager’s authority at the club.

Ten Hag, on the other hand, looked to emerge from a terrible incident with a cheerful attitude. His choice to bench Ronaldo for one game, although a crucial one, underscored that the Dutchman was in charge of United – and that despite being the highest earner with the highest status in the playing team, Ronaldo would not be able to override the manager.

Ronaldo’s banishment from United training and the matchday squad was never going to be permanent, and he returned to training with his teammates this week, and he is now scheduled to rejoin the squad for the Europa League match against FC Sheriff at Old Trafford this week.

“Back on track, with the same passion and dedication as always!” Ronaldo said on Instagram on Wednesday, alongside a photo of himself participating in a United training session ahead of the European match.

This appears to be a message to the club, the fans, the players, and, perhaps most importantly, Ten Hag. The statement that he is now “back on track” implies regret for his misdeeds and resolve to do better in the future.

The 37-year-old has started just one of United’s past nine Premier League games and has fallen behind Marcus Rashford and Antony Martial in the club’s pecking order. However, due to a lack of depth, Ronaldo is still expected to play a significant role for the team in the coming weeks.
