Video: Ronaldo and Fernandes combine for goal to give Portugal vital step towards Qatar World Cup
Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes of Manchester United have collaborated once more to give Portugal a 1-0 lead in their World Cup playoff final.
A stray pass by North Macedonia, who surprised Euro 2020 champions Italy by making it this far, allowed Fernandes to cling onto the ball and launch a quick counter-attack.
He then passed to Ronaldo, who placed it back into the midfielder’s path with a sneaky nutmeg for Fernandes to finish well into the bottom corner.
There is still time for North Macedonia to cause an upset in the second half.
