(Video) ‘Rock solid’ – Declan Rice hails Manchester United midfielder as one of the best
Rice, who is known for lending toughness to West Ham’s midfield, faces great Premier League players every week.
It says a lot about the England international as a player that he has regularly produced at a high level for the past two seasons.
Rice may be argued to be on the same list of excellent midfielders he cited when asked to choose the Premier League’s best five.
Mateo Kovacic, Bernardo Silva, Rodri, Paul Pogba, and Yves Bissouma are among them.
Rice told BT Sport on facing Pogba: “He [Pogba] is honestly in the top three players I’ve ever played against.” He’s just so strong, so good on the ball, can take the ball under insane amounts of pressure and get out of it with skill, knows how to play one, two touches, and long passes.
“My second game for West Ham was actually at Old Trafford, we lost 4-0, and I came in with an hour to go,” England’s star revealed. He [Pogba] ran the show; I got into a 50/50 with him and thought to myself, ‘What have I run into?’ He was unbreakable. He was very powerful.”
Rice’s mention of Pogba piqued my curiosity since there’s a chance at least one of them will be at Old Trafford this summer, and I’m not talking about the one now wearing a red shirt.
According to the Telegraph, both Manchester United and Chelsea are interested in signing Rice this summer, with one trustworthy source strongly hinting that the Hammers may want to cash in on their most cherished asset.
