Cristiano Ronaldo has broken his social media seclusion amid speculation about his future at Manchester United.

Early in the summer, it appeared like questions over Ronaldo’s future at United had been answered when the 37-year-old expressed his delight about working with new manager Erik ten Hag. However, despite only returning to Old Trafford last summer, he informed the club earlier this month that he wanted to leave for a second time during the transfer season.

Ronaldo was scheduled to go to Carrington on Monday, July 3, following the announcement of his wish to leave on Saturday, July 2. However, the club offered him additional time off due to family obligations. Ronaldo did not travel with the rest of the squad on their pre-season trip and is currently in Lisbon.

Ronaldo’s social media has been radio silent since his desire to leave United became public, but that changed on Thursday when he posted a snapshot of himself working out in a gym on Twitter and Instagram. It was accompanied by the caption ‘HARD WORK,’ which was followed by a muscle emoji.

MEN Sport reports that Ronaldo wants to quit United after becoming dissatisfied with the club’s lack of transfer activity this summer following their disastrous campaign last season, as well as a 25% wage cut imposed on the players following their failure to qualify for the Champions League.

Despite his stance, United has insisted that he is not for sale, and dressing room sources believe he will remain at the club. Ten Hag said earlier this week that he was planning for the season with Ronaldo in mind.

“No, we’re planning for Cristiano Ronaldo for the season, that’s all, and I’m excited to work with him,” he stated. “I have read, but what I have to say is that Cristiano is not for sale; he is part of our goals, and we want to succeed together.”

“I spoke with him before this situation arose; I had a pleasant conversation with him.” That is between Cristiano and me, but I can confirm we had a great talk. As I previously stated, we had a really wonderful conversation.”
