Newcastle United is preparing for a mouthwatering Premier League encounter with Manchester United.

The international break is gradually coming to an end, bringing the return of club football into focus. The Magpies will be fired up as well, as they compete for European football and, more specifically, a top-four position. Eddie Howe’s men are currently fifth in the table, two points behind Tottenham and with two games in hand.

They are also only three points behind Manchester United after playing the same number of games, making this weekend’s duel at Saint James’ Park all the more attractive. We still have some time until Sunday’s Premier League match, but we already know a little about both clubs’ injury issues.

Newcastle will be worried about Sven Botman, who has been ill over the international break, but you’d expect the defender will be fine in time, as will Callum Wilson. Nick Pope had to withdraw from England duty due to a minor injury, but he should be available for this game, as will Allan Saint-Maximin, who suffered a hamstring injury before the break.

Anthony Gordon could return to the lineup, but Miguel Almiron remains out with a thigh injury. Emil Krafth, like youngster Matty Longstaff, will be out until pre-season. Newcastle will also be without Joelinton, who has been suspended after receiving his second yellow card.

Man United’s Donny van de Beek is out for the rest of the season, and Alejandro Garnacho is out for the next few weeks. Casemiro is also unavailable for United due to a ban following his second red card of the season. Ten Hag’s good news is that he hopes to see Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, and possibly Christian Eriksen return from injury. The latter two will remain as doubts for this one.
