Paul Scholes called Manchester United’s £85 million star Antony a “clown” after he showboated with a 720-degree spin during their 3-0 win over Sheriff Tiraspol on Thursday night.
Antony was chastised at Old Trafford for finding some space on the wing before completing his signature trick with the game goalless – only to recklessly send the ball out of play after a badly chosen pass.
Later, at halftime, he was subbed out by manager Erik ten Hag, who appeared unimpressed on the sidelines and shook his head before pulling him, and club icon Scholes cautioned the new signing that he ‘needs that knocking out of him if he is to succeed at United.
When questioned on BT Sport if Ten Hag’s decision was influenced by his behavior, he said, ‘More or less.’ It might have had something to do with it, I believe. You could see his expression on the bench. I believe it irritated him. I’m just not sure what it does. I enjoy a little showboating and entertainment, but please get the pass properly.
