The Red Devils had the opportunity to retake fourth place in the rankings, but they were unable to do so following another unsatisfactory performance in front of their home fans.

Cristiano Ronaldo should have put Manchester United ahead in the seventh minute with an open goal to shoot at, but his feeble effort was easily intercepted.

Moments later, Sancho failed to convert on a one-on-one against goalkeeper Fraser Forster, but he eventually scored in the 21st minute.

Marcus Rashford delivered the ball to him from the right flank. Sancho scored his second goal in as many home games with an easy tap-in at the far post.

Unfortunately, it was not enough for the Red Devils, who lost early in the second half for the second game in a row. For the Saints, Che Adams equalized.

Rangnick was disappointed with the defeat, but he praised Sancho, who is finding his feet after a difficult start to his rookie season, in his post-match press conference.

“I’m really pleased with Jadon’s efforts in the last two of games,” he told reporters via Manutd.com. This is the Jadon we’re used to seeing in the German Bundesliga.”

“He still has room to improve, but the way he’s playing right now, he’s perhaps the best Jadon Sancho Manchester United has seen so far.”

The England international had a dismal debut season with the Red Devils, scoring four goals in 26 appearances across all competitions.

However, after the winter break, he has shown a lot of promise in the last third. He has impressed with his rapid dribbling and has scored twice.

After a shaky start to his United career, his fortunes have improved, but there is still plenty of room for growth in the second half of the season.

Sancho recently impressed against Burnley, but his decision-making around the box was lacking, as efforts were either blocked or off target. He should only become better as he gains confidence.
