United Manchester Maintain Interest in Cody Gakpo and May Return for Star in the Winter

Manchester United got close to a deal in August before focusing solely on completing Antony’s transfer. Gakpo was open to a possible move to Manchester and was willing to accept United’s requirements.

Leeds United also came close to securing the 23-year-old when their deal with PSV fell through on deadline day. Despite paying more than Southampton, the Dutch club rejected the bid and decided to keep the attacker. The Netherlands’ manager, Louis van Gaal, persuaded Gakpo to stick put until the World Cup in November.

According to Romano, the Red Devils have “excellent relations with the player,” and one advantage in their favor is that Gakpo shared an agent with United manager Erik ten Hag. “There is a notion that English clubs will return for Gakpo in January,” he added.

“United is aware that he could be a viable option.”

United fans have dubbed the Dutchman a “potential world-class talent” and urged the club to move soon before another club signs him.

Gakpo’s goal contributions continue to shine brightly on the pitch.

The attacker is coming off his greatest season to date, scoring 21 and assisting 15 goals in 47 games across all competitions, and he’s hoping to go even farther this season. Gakpo has already scored ten goals and assisted on nine others in his 13 appearances.

Gakpo is also establishing himself as a viable candidate for a spot in the Netherlands’ World Cup squad. He has already made five contributions to the senior national team in nine games, demonstrating his capacity to contribute to both club and country. He has had 20 direct goal involvements in his last 13 games. The upcoming competition could be vital in Gakpo building a name for himself on one of the world’s most significant stages.
