Manchester United has begun discussions to sign an experienced Bundesliga star in the January transfer window, while Tottenham has spoken to the representative of a France striker now playing in Germany, according to Friday’s Transfer Gossip.
UNITED IS PREPARED FOR THE KEEPER SWOOP
Manchester United is allegedly in talks to sign goalkeeper Yann Sommer from Borussia Monchengladbach.
The 33-year-contract old’s with the Bundesliga club expires at the end of the season, making him a free agent.
United presently has Martin Dubravka on loan from Newcastle United as David De Gea’s backup.
According to ESPN, United is now planning to bring in Sommer as a replacement for De Gea next summer.
Meanwhile, Dubravka is anticipated to return to Newcastle at the end of the season.
De Gea’s contract expires at the end of the season, although United has the option to extend it for another year.
Sommer might face off against De Gea.
If the Red Devils exercise that option, it may be a straight shootout between De Gea and Sommer for the long-term Old Trafford No.1.
However, United has yet to hold talks with De Gea and may let him leave for free next summer.
If that happens, the club will need to bring in two new goalkeepers, with a younger replacement likely to be brought in to replace Sommer.
Sommer started all four of Switzerland’s World Cup games but was defeated six times by Portugal in the last 16.
TOTTENHAM WANTS TO LAND A FRENCH STRIKER
Tottenham is said to have met with the agent of France international striker Randal Kolo Muani.
According to Foot Mercato, Spurs are interested in the Eintracht Frankfurt forward, as are Liverpool, who are thought to be leading the battle for the player’s signature.
Muani, who joined Frankfurt on a free transfer from Nantes last summer, has rebuilt himself in Germany.
After Christopher Nkunku was forced to withdraw due to injury, the 24-year-strong old’s play earned him a position in France’s squad for the 2022 World Cup.
Muani has eight goals in 23 appearances for Frankfurt this season, including a match against Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League group stage.
In total, he has 51 goals in 186 appearances and is regarded as one of Europe’s greatest promising prospects.

Aston Villa and Leicester City are reportedly interested in Inter Milan center-back Stefan de Vrij’s availability in January.
The Premier League duo, along with Spanish heavyweights Atletico Madrid, have enquired about the Netherlands international’s present situation with agent Federico Pastorello.
The 30-year-old will be available on a free transfer next summer and has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham.
However, according to FC Inter News, midlands rivals Villa and Leicester are looking to arrange their own deals.
De Vrij has nine goals in 181 Inter appearances since joining Lazio in 2018.
