Liverpool must do all in their power to maintain Pep Lijnders, but Arsenal is a different story.

It is unclear if Jurgen Klopp will extend his contract at Liverpool beyond the conclusion of his current term in 2024,

but the German has sent a warning to the club. Is Pep Lijnders the man to beat when it comes to prospective successors in this situation?

It’s something Liverpool supporters would never want to think about: life without Jürgen Klopp as their manager at Anfield. However, with the German’s contract expiring in 2024, is Klopp’s trusty number two Pep Lijnders in pole position to take over from him?

Lijnders left Liverpool in January 2018 to follow his ambition of becoming a manager by taking over at NEC Nijmegen. However, things did not go according to plan, and Lijnders returned to Anfield six months later to take over as Klopp’s assistant manager.

A comparison may be made between Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and Lijnders because the Spaniard formerly held the position of No. 2 under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, and the two had worked together previously.

It’s not something Liverpool fans want to think about, but there will come a point when Klopp will feel his work at Anfield has been completed, and he will undoubtedly do everything in his power to assist the club’s owners in appointing the person he believes is the best candidate to take over as manager.

It is hard to replace a person who has contributed so much to a club’s success; this reminds me of the time when Liverpool had to replace Steven Gerrard as captain.

The absence of someone who has contributed so much to the club, such as Gerrard, makes it extremely difficult for their successor to step in and take over the mantle.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson will go down in history as one of the best in the club’s storied history after leading them to victory in the Champions League and the long-awaited Premier League. He is popularly recognized as the Premier League’s “captain of captains” since he was the driving force behind the footballer’s gift to the National Health Service.

      DON’T MISS:

Not only did Henderson succeed Gerrard, but he also became an inspiration to many in his own right. Perhaps this is a road that Lijnders might take if he were to take the helm of a company.

who has gone from being Man City’s second-in-command to being the manager of Arsenal: “Mikel Arteta is someone I admire. Some people are critical of him, but there are some indicators that he is making strides in the right direction. It is difficult to make the transition from assistant manager to manager.

“We watched Pep Lijnders do that and fail miserably, and then he just returned to Liverpool. That does not take away from the fact that he is an excellent coach with the potential to develop into an equally excellent manager.

Liverpool must do all in their power to maintain Pep Lijnders, but Arsenal is a different story.

That is not to imply that Arteta will do miracles, but patience is necessary when committing to a manager whose previous experience is limited to a successful stint as an assistant coach. Previously, Klopp and several of Liverpool’s key players expressed their admiration for Lijnders, who regularly takes the lead in training sessions for the Reds while implementing his own ideas, demonstrating how much confidence Klopp places in his number two.

Dutch coach Bert van Marwijk praises in especially the way full-backs Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold come forward and participate in assaults. He even went so far as to say that Robertson’s goal in the Champions League group stages two seasons ago, which was helped by Alexander-Arnold, was “the ideal goal.” Robertson’s goal in the Champions League group stages two seasons ago, assisted by Alexander-Arnold, was “the perfect goal.”

When Sir Alex Ferguson resigned in 2013, Manchester United was left with the job of replacing him, and they have failed to win the Premier League in the three years following his departure.

            DON’T MISS:

The former Manchester United manager wanted his team to sign Klopp, but the German coach was content at Borussia Dortmund, so United went to Everton manager David Moyes – and we all know how that worked out.

It is unlikely that Liverpool would repeat the same error, and choosing someone who has been at the club for a number of years and is well-versed in the way the players and the recruiting staff prefer to operate may be crucial to the club’s continued success once Klopp has left the club. Pep Lijnders, like Arsenal and Arteta, is a player who may demand patience at some point in his career.
