According to transfer source Dean Jones, Manchester United will ‘remain pressing’ for Frenkie de Jong to move to Old Trafford despite Chelsea being close to a deal.

Erik ten Hag, the manager of the Red Devils, is hoping for a reunion with the Barcelona midfielder, whom he previously managed at Ajax.

What is the most recent de Jong news?

According to Spanish reports, Chelsea is close to finalizing a deal worth more than £67.6 million with Barcelona, putting them ahead of Manchester United in the battle to sign de Jong.

Thomas Tuchel’s team is still waiting for the Dutchman to decide whether he wants to travel to Stamford Bridge.

However, 90 minutes has indicated that Manchester United will not go down without a fight and will continue to pursue de Jong’s signature.

According to the report, ten Hag, who took over as manager of the Red Devils at the end of last season, has already met with the 44-cap Dutch international on several occasions.

Manchester United appeared to be in pole position to sign the 25-year-old after completing a £63 million deal with Barcelona last month, but the deal fell through.

What did Dean Jones have to say about de Jong?

Jones understands that Manchester United is still determined to bring de Jong, who is currently on a £164,000-per-week contract at Barcelona, to Old Trafford.

Although the Red Devils have agreed on a fee of £15 million with Juventus for fellow midfielder Adrien Rabiot, the transfer insider insists that this will not be the end of the negotiations.

“They won’t give up on de Jong until either deadline day passes or he ends up in a Chelsea shirt,” Jones told GIVEMESPORT.

“They’ll keep moving forward. It’s their intention to move through with these two deals concurrently, and if they can sign both, they will.”

Will de Jong wind up at Manchester United?

De Jong stated in May that he would prefer to stay in Barcelona or join a club competing in the Champions League.

Manchester United will not compete in Europe’s highest club competition this season after finishing 13 points behind the Premier League’s top four last season, which does not help them.

Barcelona is still refusing to pay the £14.2 million owed to de Jong following the rearrangement of his contract, raising further doubts about whether a solution can be reached.
