Anthony Martial has returned to Manchester United’s training ground but is yet to return to squad training after suffering a back ailment earlier this month.

Martial was taken off during the first half of Manchester United’s Premier League victory over Everton. The attacker appeared to be struggling with the condition during the warm-up but lined up at Goodison Park regardless, only to be replaced before half-time.

United has been without Martial for the majority of the season owing to three separate injuries, and it’s unknown whether he’ll be back before the World Cup.

Ten Hag told club media about Martial, “He’s progressing.” He’s back on the [training] pitch, but he’s not with the group, so we’ll have to wait for that. But perhaps he’ll be back soon.”

Ten Hag confirmed that Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Donny van de Beek could all be in contention to face Omonia Nicosia at Old Trafford on Thursday night, depending on how they performed in the team’s final pre-match training session on Wednesday after returning to team training earlier in the week.

“They are back in training, and they will also be involved in today’s final training for the game tomorrow, and after training, we will make the decision,” Ten Hag added.

Ten Hag said of United’s hectic October schedule and how he believes his players handled it well: “I think it’s good. I believe it demonstrates that we can come back and decide on games in the final minutes, indicating that our fitness levels are adequate. However, that is an investment that must be maintained. It is our obligation as coaches, but especially as players, to do the correct things, first and foremost on the training ground, on the field, and in the gym, but also in terms of rehabilitation and nutrition.”
