Last season, Greenwood faced suspension from United while the club conducted an internal investigation into his behavior.

During that time, Greenwood had faced serious charges, including attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior, and assault causing actual bodily harm. However, these charges were dropped after a key witness withdrew.

The one-time England international has consistently denied the allegations.

United, in a statement at the end of their investigation, declared that Greenwood would not play for the club again. Consequently, on transfer deadline day, he was sent on a season-long loan to Getafe in Spain, with United covering his wages.

Although Greenwood hasn’t fully returned to the form that once marked him as a future star at United, he has made a significant impact at Getafe.

The 22-year-old, who had been without competitive play for about 18 months at the start of his loan, has contributed with five goals and four assists in 15 appearances for Getafe.

Despite his improving performance, TalkSPORT reports that United currently has no plans for Greenwood’s return to Old Trafford. The most likely scenario after the loan spell concludes is a potential sale next summer.

There are reports that Greenwood has garnered interest from prestigious clubs worldwide. Barcelona has reportedly sent scouts to observe Greenwood, and Atletico Madrid is also said to be monitoring his progress.

Greenwood is set to return to action in 2024, with the La Liga campaign temporarily paused until the New Year. His next game is scheduled for January 2, where Getafe will face Rayo Vallecano.
