The Blues were interested in the Portugal international in the summer of 2022. Todd Boehly was keen to bring the striker to west London. However, at the time, former manager Thomas Tuchel was not interested in bringing the 37-year-old to Stamford Bridge.

But now, with the appointment of Graham Potter, Chelsea could pursue Ronaldo on a short-term deal in January. And the deal could be extended for another season if the Portuguese and the Blues agree.

United will decide the 37-year-old’s immediate future in the coming weeks. The Red Devils are open to terminating the striker’s contract at the club. And the former Real Madrid man is willing to take a pay cut to get away from Old Trafford.

Ronaldo has not enjoyed the best of seasons under new manager Erik ten Hag. The Dutch manager has rarely started the Portuguese in the Premier League this season.

United’s top scorer in the previous campaign has also struggled to put the ball in the net this season. In 12 appearances in all competitions, the 37-year-old has scored just two goals.

Ten Hag has preferred the likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial to the five-time Ballon d’Or winner in the starting line-up. And the Portuguese was frustrated when he appeared.

Ronaldo was not part of the United team that travelled to Stamford Bridge on October 22 (Saturday). The Portuguese was suspended after walking into the tunnel before half-time against Tottenham Hotspur.

Is the 37-year-old’s chapter at the Manchester club coming to an end? Only time will tell.
