EXCLUSIVE: Barcelona, Leeds set for disappointment as Fulham close on new deal for starlet

The 19-year-old earned his Cottagers debut at the end of last season and has already broken into the first-team under new manager Marco Silva, where he has excelled.

Carvalho‘s current contract is set to expire at the conclusion of the season, thus negotiations have been continuing. The teenager had turned down their original offer earlier in the summer, but they are now certain that they will be able to retain his services in the long term.

Along with Barcelona, Lyon, Monaco, and Borussia Dortmund have been monitoring him, as have clubs from his native nation of Portugal, Porto, Sporting Libson, and Benfica.

Leeds was also mentioned as possible suitors for Carvalho by the Sun and Daily Mail.

Last season, Leeds was able to have a good look at Carvalho. He appeared for Fulham Under-23s versus the Whites’ under-23s both at home and away.

Despite the fact that Fulham was hammered 7-1 at Thorp Arch in December, Carvalho scored a fantastic goal. He also scored when the teams played in London.

Carvalho’s development

Leeds has been bringing in young players in recent years. This summer has seen the arrivals of Kristoffer Klaesson, Leo Hjelde, Sean McGurk, and Lewis Bate.

Last season, Carvalho made six first-team appearances under Scott Parker. And Fulham is keen to keep the youngster following his outstanding start to the season.

Three goals and an assist in five Championship games so far have demonstrated his immense potential.

Carvalho played for Benfica as a child before his family relocated to London in 2013, when he was only ten years old.

He came through the Cottagers development system and starred for the Under-23s last season. In 13 Premier League 2 outings, he scored 11 goals.

Carvalho has subsequently gone on to represent England at the Under-18 level. However, we believe that the Portuguese Football Association is still keeping a close eye on him.
