Jamie Carragher, a former Liverpool ace and Sky Sports regular, has questioned why Manchester United star Antony appears to receive more criticism than his teammate Jadon Sancho.

Antony has been the subject of great scrutiny and has frequently been lambasted by famous analysts and United club icons since arriving for the Red Devils in the summer for a hefty £ 88 million deal. Of course, the Brazilian must accept some blame for going from October to April without scoring a league goal.

Having saying that, he has had some memorable moments in a United shirt. The ex-Ajax man definitely has talent, as evidenced by a superb debut finish against Arsenal in September and a magnificent strike to eliminate Barcelona from the Europa League.

Nonetheless, he is heavily criticized. Unquestionably more than Sancho, who has contributed substantially less to the cause of the Red Devils. This has not gone unnoticed by Carragher, who addressed it on Twitter.

“Antony has done more in six months than Sancho has in two years,” the Anfield legend wrote. However, Antony receives a lot of criticism whereas Sancho receives relatively little,” followed by a shrugging, perplexed emoji.

Antony has had eight goals and two assists since making the big money swap in the summer. That’s three more goals than Sancho, who didn’t exactly light up the world in his rookie season last year.

The England international joined United from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2021 for a fee of £73 million and struggled throughout his first season. Antony scored five goals and added three assists, meaning he has already surpassed his goal total from his first season.

Sancho’s withdrawal at halftime of United’s defeat to Sevilla is a devastating assessment of his current form.

Sancho struggled to make an impact in the 45 minutes he was given and was eventually substituted by Marcus Rashford at halftime.

Antony, on the other hand, received the entire 90 minutes. It wasn’t a memorable performance, either individually or collectively, but the Brazilian was perhaps United’s standout performer in a 3-0 defeat at the hands of the Spaniard.

Multiple blunders from the likes of Harry Maguire and David de Gea handed Sevilla the victory and progression to the Europa League’s last four, leaving United licking their wounds ahead of Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final clash with Brighton.
