On Thursday evening, Alejandro Garnacho’s goal sealed United’s 1-0 win over Real Sociedad, but it wasn’t enough for United to finish first in Group E, as they needed to beat their Spanish opponents by two goals.

As a result, United will need to win a play-off match in February to advance to the Europa League last-16.

United might face eight opponents, all of whom were eliminated from the Champions League this week after placing third in their group.

United might face Bayer Leverkusen, Red Bull Salzburg, Sevilla, Shakhtar Donetsk, and Sporting CP in addition to Ajax, Barcelona, and Juventus.

The draw for the Europa League play-offs will take place on November 7 at 12:00.

The Europa League play-offs for Manchester United will take place on February 16 and 23, 2023.
