Since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013, United has struggled to find its identity, with managers ranging from David Moyes to Jose Mourinho employing varied methods and beliefs.

The club currently appears to be focused on improving matters off the field in order to improve performance on the field, and they are looking to hire a new Deputy Director of Football to serve alongside John Murtough, with Ralf Rangnick taking on a consulting position.

Ten Hag succeeded at Ajax thanks to a world-class system, and he’ll need the same at Old Trafford if he’s to be successful.

In exchange, United may get a manager who can install an attacking style of play similar to what Guardiola has done at Manchester City.

For two years at Bayern Munich, the Dutchman worked alongside Guardiola, learning from him before taking his first managerial steps.

And Ten Hag has revealed what he could contribute to Old Trafford by admitting Guardiola has had a significant effect on his mindset.

‘Guardiola taught me a lot,’ Ten Hag stated in 2019.

‘His ideology is spectacular, and what he did in Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and now Manchester City, with his offensive and appealing style, has seen him win a lot.’

‘I’ve tried to construct this structure using Ajax.’
