This week’s interesting quarter-final clash will be a rematch of last season’s semi-final, in which the Londoners defeated their Spanish opponents 3-1 on aggregate, including a 2-0 home win in the second leg.

However, this season’s game will most likely be drastically different, and despite winning the coveted trophy last summer, the Blues are currently going through a difficult period.

Tuchel’s pre-match preparations are far from ideal, having been thrashed 4-1 by strugglers Brentford last weekend and, most crucially, owner Roman Abramovich being sanctioned by the UK Government.

Tuchel, as quoted by Marca, remarked after the Brentford game on Saturday: “It’s not about Real Madrid.”

“It’s all about us.” We have one day off now until we resume on Monday.

“We chose this team because we believed it was the best fit for Brentford.” We didn’t have half an eye, let alone 1% of an eye, on Real Madrid.”

According to The Athletic’s source, Carlo Ancelotti’s players are eager for a rematch with the Blues, especially because it allows them to avoid Premier League chasers like Liverpool and Manchester City, both of whom they see as considerably greater footballing sides.

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool has been drawn against Benfica, while Pep Guardiola’s City will face Atletico Madrid.
