After sacking Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in November, the Old Trafford boardroom has yet to choose his permanent replacement. However, according to the Manchester Evening News, Ten Hag is currently the favorite contender for that role.

Ralf Rangnick remains in charge in the interim and will transition to an advisory role at the end of the season, with United still planning to select a permanent manager before the summer. Ten Hag and fellow front-runner Mauricio Pochettino both crashed out of the Champions League in the last-16 round with Ajax and Paris Saint-Germain, respectively, thus United can no longer win silverware this season.

Ten Hag, on the other hand, has had a lot of success with the Eredivisie giants. Since taking over in 2017, the 52-year-old has won two league crowns and two domestic cups. Ten Hag was the Bayern Munich II coach before that, as well as a term at FC Utrecht, and this experience coincided with Guardiola’s time in the Bundesliga.

Needless to say, the Dutchman absorbed a great deal from Manchester City’s legendary manager. But how will that work affect his potential United tenure? “I learned a lot from Guardiola,” ten Hag stated in 2019.
