As he enters his last months at Manchester United, Diego Forlan has questioned compatriot Edinson Cavani’s chances.
After scoring 17 goals in his debut season, Cavani has missed 23 of United’s 40 games this season and has only started six games, scoring twice.
Some United fans have become irritated by Cavani’s habit of declaring himself unavailable for games, and interim manager Ralf Rangnick and former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have both stated that Cavani operates on his own terms.
After representing Uruguay in the round of international fixtures, the 35-year-old has been left out of the matchday squad, making his participation against Leicester on Saturday improbable. Cavani was set to start the season as United’s starting striker until Cristiano Ronaldo was re-signed by the club and reclaimed the number seven shirt from Cavani.
Cavani’s contract expires on June 30, and he has only started four games this season. Forlan, a former teammate, says Cavani hasn’t got enough consecutive starts.
Forlan told the MEN, “I don’t know what happened to him.” “I’m aware that he’s been hurt numerous times and that he’s been unlucky. Do you think he had the chance to play that many games in a row? We’d be talking about another Edinson Cavani if he had that chance. It would have been lot better if he scored goals, was swift, and was strong, really physically strong.
“It’s difficult to get into a rhythm when a guy is injured one game, then stops and plays two more games.”
“He had some really nice moments, but then he was hurt a lot, and it’s always difficult for a player when they don’t have a lot of games in a row.

When he returned, he was injured and didn’t start the season as well as he ended it, which is difficult when you have so many ailments. He’s a highly talented player, so maybe he can get back on track and play many games in a row.”
