The Premier League returns this weekend with Manchester United hosting Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday afternoon.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been speaking to the media ahead of the game at his pre-match press conference this afternoon, providing team news and injury updates.

Marcus Rashford was unable to represent England during the international break, while Luke Shaw was also left out of Gareth Southgate’s World Cup qualifying group after sustaining a concussion in Manchester United’s defeat to Manchester City two weeks ago.

Scott McTominay joined the Scotland squad, however owing to a throat ailment, he was ruled out of their World Cup qualifiers. Solskjaer told reporters today that the trio will be evaluated ahead of Saturday’s match against Watford, but that this week has been “very encouraging,” which could indicate they are on the mend.

Paul Pogba, who has been sent to Dubai to recover from a thigh injury suffered while with the France group last week is one player who is set to miss the match at Vicarage Road.

Raphael Varane is also out for Manchester United as he continues his recovery from a thigh injury, while Edinson Cavani is a doubt for the match against Watford owing to a tendon issue.

ManUtd.com quoted Solskjaer as saying:

“I have to admit, this week has been quite encouraging. With diseases and minor niggles, there are bound to be some reservations.

“Paul is still out for a while, and Raphael is also out.” Apart from that, players will return in the not-too-distant future. Some will take place this weekend, while others will take place during the week. But every squad that is without guys goes through the same thing.”

While Solskjaer gave little away at his press conference, ManUtd.com reports that he gave a separate interview to MUTV’s Stewart Gardner in which he claimed that Shaw, McTominay, and Rashford have all been in training this week and might play against Watford tomorrow.

Man United travel to Vicarage Road in sixth place in the Premier League table following their derby loss to Manchester City, and Solskjaer will be hoping to get back on track against Watford.
