David de Gea is unsure how Manchester United will improve following their 4-0 loss to Brentford.

United had their worst season in decades last season, but Saturday’s defeat against Brentford marked a new low in the club’s history. United was embarrassed, outfought, and outplayed in the first half, conceding four goals.

Although Erik ten Hag’s appointment offered fans hope this summer, the wonderful feeling he produced has already worn off. Nothing appears to have improved since the last term, with the same issues persisting.

United has played two games this season and has lost both, putting them at the bottom of the Premier League. “I’m not sure, to be honest,” De Gea admitted to Sky Sports when asked how United might improve its results.

“Other teams are making significant progress, and it appears like we are in the same boat.” It was a good preseason, but it was insufficient.

“We have to show up in Premier League games because those are the games that count.” We need to stick together, work harder than we are, learn what the boss wants as quickly as possible, and play for the badge, play for the club.”

On Monday, August 22, United will host Liverpool at Old Trafford.
