Everton give injury update on Manchester United loanee Donny van de Beek

Everton manager Frank Lampard has revealed that Donny van de Beek, on loan from Manchester United, will miss Wednesday’s crucial Premier League match against Burnley due to a thigh injury.

The Dutchman, who joined the Toffees on a season-long loan in January, was forced to withdraw from the warm-up ahead of the London Stadium showdown with West Ham United on Sunday. He had been picked in the starting line-up to play David Moyes’ team, but he pulled up before the game began, and Mason Holgate took his place.

After being given a late start, Holgate scored, but it was not enough to prevent Lampard’s team from losing 2-1. It means they’ll be four points and two places ahead of Burnley in the table heading into the match.

With Lampard admitting that Van de Beek has suffered a’small grade thigh injury,’ the Toffees will have to try to ease their relegation fears at Turf Moor. Despite his lack of fitness, he would not have been eligible to face United on Saturday afternoon at Goodison Park according to the rules of his loan agreement.

Everton’s club website quotes Lampard as saying: “Donny isn’t going to be able to play. It’s a little thigh issue that will allow him to play [against Leicester City]. In any case, he is ineligible to play against Manchester United this weekend.”

The former Ajax man has made six appearances for the Merseysiders since signing on loan, starting five times. However, he hasn’t played in the last two games, meaning he hasn’t been able to help the Goodison Park side alleviate their relegation fears.

Everton would be six points clear of danger if they won at Burnley. A loss, on the other hand, would put Watford and Burnley within striking distance.
